Shelly's Wedding/ Cape Henry Lighthouses

My friend Shelly got married over the weekend. I have known her since the 7th grade. Our dads were both in the Air Force and we met when we moved to Idaho.   We have kept in touch off and on over the years. Her now husband is in the Navy and they live in Virginia Beach which is about four hours from where I live in Northern Virginia.  I am so glad I was able to be there and celebrate their special day with them.

They rented a house on the beach just south of VA Beach in a community called Sandbridge for the wedding and reception.  Friday night we started the weekend off with a bridal shower that included all her friends and family from out of town.

I was able to stay in the house and have my own room which was decorated like a tropical retreat.

Saturday was a beautiful day for a wedding, a little of the windy and cold outside but it is better then the alternative.  Shelly was a beautiful bride. Everyone had a great time and the food was delicious especially the cupcakes!!

Sunday I woke up and did a little exploring before I headed back home.  Since we did not grow up living near the ocean I have taken a liking to lighthouses and want to see as many as I can.  I found one in VA Beach and had to make a stop.  It is on a military base called Ft Story which is used by the Army and Navy for training purposes.  They have two lighthouse across the street from each other Old Cape Henry and New Cape Henry Lighthouse which is the black and white one.  The old Cape Henry was the first lighthouse built in the United States in 1791 as the light into the Chesapeake Bay.  They have the old Cape Henry with a small fee open to the public to go inside and look around.
